About Us

Welcome to the Rhayader Round the Lakes Race – a scenic and challenging road running event set in the heart of Mid Wales!

Rhayader Round the Lakes has a proud tradition stretching back to the 1980s, when it was first established to offer runners a unique challenge through the dramatic landscapes of the Elan Valley. Originally created by local running enthusiasts, the race quickly gained a reputation for its scenic routes, friendly atmosphere, and tough-but-rewarding course. Over the years, it has grown into a much-loved fixture in the Welsh running calendar, attracting club runners, first-timers, and seasoned athletes alike. With its roots firmly in the local community and a course that celebrates the natural beauty of Mid Wales, the race continues to go from strength to strength.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Elan Valley, it offers a unique opportunity to experience one of the most picturesque race routes in the country.

Our event features two exciting distances:
30 km – A stunning and rewarding route through the iconic Elan Valley dams, perfect for those looking for a challenge.

10 km – A shorter but equally beautiful run, taking in the scenic roads and cycle paths around Rhayader and the Elan Valley Visitor Centre.

More than just a race, Rhayader Round the Lakes is a true community event, known for its friendly atmosphere, incredible local support, and the dedication of our fantastic volunteers.

Whether you're an experienced runner, a first-timer, or cheering from the sidelines, you’ll be part of something special.

Join us for an unforgettable experience – push your limits, soak in the views, and enjoy the warm Welsh welcome!
