Why the cut off time for 2027?

Just for clarity, there is NO cut off time for the 10km race.
The 29ish km Round the Lakes Race takes place on the first Saturday of March, reaches 1,600 feet and much of the course is in the wilds of the Elan Valley. At that time of year, as those who've done the race before will know, we could be get snow, rain, hail, ice, cold winds or sunshine!
In those weather conditions and geography it's important that our runners keep moving and that we make sure our marshals aren't out on the course for longer than necessary.
We appreciate that everyone starts a race intending to race well but sometimes we might loose momentum, or the hills may get the better of us. So we've introduced a cut off time to ensure that anyone who is not going to make the 15 mile point in 4 hours can gracefully withdraw with absolutely no shame and those that do make the cut off will need to finish the whole race in 4hrs 30 mins.
We hope the cut off time will help you decide if this race is for you and will be a focus for your training.
